Many events reoccur just by where you are, so it's easy to get a party member in your party when you're not sapposd to and it ruins the entire game, as in, you can't continue the story. There are a million different little annoying problems with this game.

Apparently you shouldn't speak to the guy guarding the boat that takes you to Wutai.
